New York City Street Fashion November 2024
This is an old archive that I decided to publish. Even though these are just my first photos made on film, I still think some of them are worth sharing. Sometimes I like to reflect on old shots and recall what exactly captured my attention.
Passing SOHO (South of Houston Street), I saw this girl. I'm sure she works in some of the local boutiques and just went out for a quick break. She looked so much like a young Sade — same elegant bone structure, same sleek bun, even body language kinda akin - I couldn't just pass her.
This distinguished gentleman drew my attention mostly because of the unusual cane. Was it even a cane? Maybe it was a weapon or a wizard's staff. The latter is the most plausible answer.
Speaking of the devil, I saw another magical character. Walking in Manhattan, sometimes it's hard to tell whether you're seeing a homeless person, an insane person, or a famous person. And don't forget it can be a combo of the above. This whimsical lady appeared to be a very prominent journalist.
Lynn Yaeger is a legendary fashion journalist who spent thirty years at The Village Voice before becoming a contributing editor at Vogue, where she's known for her biting humor, wit, and unapologetically frank writing. As fearless with her words as she is with her fashion, she's instantly recognizable for her eccentric personal style—cropped henna-dyed hair, doll-inspired makeup, and layers upon layers of voluminous skirts
This photo wasn't candid. I liked his style and asked for a photo. Honestly, I did him a bit of a disservice by framing it from a low angle; the guy is very tall. I thought his style was somehow very European.
Nowadays, you can't just walk on Broadway and not see a wheely. This guy rode like this for several blocks. He's rocking a 360 camera right on his forehead, so there's definitely a POV video somewhere on TikTok.
This gentleman looks like a professional photographer who came for a serious session; he's holding two cameras, film and digital, I reckon. I stood there very boldly waiting for a good moment. He probably never expected to be photographed that day.
I'm surprised how many people nowadays are completely not aware of their surroundings. I stood almost next to this girl, framing the best shot, and she didn't even notice. Well, it was easier for me, but gosh...be careful
Here you see the drastic difference between New York fashion and something else. These two gentlemen are probably from Europe. The style is too polished for the local scene
Another 'foreign' style
But now look at this guy. If this is not a New York style, I don't know what is. I sort of hunted for this shot, had to outpace this guy (it was hard even for a very fast walker like me), and I ambushed nearby the big plant pot. You can see I had to turn around quite boldly and take a shot unabashedly. I felt almost like Bruce Gilden (or should I say Guilten). To mitigate the awkwardness, I walked up to this guy and asked if he was from New York City, complimenting his style. He was very friendly but visibly tense for some reason. Later, I realized why. He said he's not really from New York City but from the state. It took me a few days to remember where I saw his face and heard his voice. My neurons eventually clicked into the right puzzle - this was Stanley Tucci
This day was generous for unique characters
This could be another celebrity, but how would you know?
This guy had a wild energy about him, staying on this stone block and shouting for the whole street, talking to someone on the phone. Welcome to New York, as they say
Here I had to ask myself, what year is this? Something about his style screamed 80's
This guy popped up like some DJ from Ibiza
This lady is from England...maybe
This Louis Vuitton wool coat is definitely a statement (it's 9k, ffs)
What in the world is in this bag? Maybe a body of Maison Margiela
Call him the Foil Hair guy. I've seen him many times, but couldn't find any information
A pipe? Perhaps a treachery of images...
Missed the shot, but this couple was some royalty, I felt it
Where's royalty, there's buffon
